Alexa Rae Joel gives new meaning to baby grand piano.
Joel’s model mom Christie Brinkley is featured in the new issue of Social Life magazine, where she talks about her and Billy Joel’s 32-year-old daughter’s early introduction to music.
“Whenever Billy would sit down to play — even when Alexa was a little baby — I would her lay her down on the piano so that the music would literally vibrate throughout her entire body,” Brinkley told the mag. “Alexa would feel the chords of the music and she loved it.”
Alexa Joel, who also sings and plays piano, performed with her dad at Madison Square Garden last month. Not surprisingly, Brinkley gave that concert a glowing review.
“Their voices sound great together,” according to Brinkley. She frequently does her daughter’s makeup before she goes on stage.
“Even though Alexa was performing in Madison Square Garden, she made it feel very homey, which is something that her dad has always been able to do,” Brinkley said. “He can make any space feel as comfortable as a living room.”
Though music fans best know Brinkley from her appearance in her husband’s 1983 video for “Uptown Girl,” the 64-year-old model spends most of her time on the East End these days. She was spotted at Montauk’s Surf Lodge last week treating friends to offerings from her organic Bellissima wine brand. On Saturday, she’ll host a party the annual St. Barth Hamptons Gala benefiting the Bridgehampton Museum. Tickets start at $105 and include seeing Brinkley’s new Marilyn Monroe-inspired ‘do.
