A Social Life Magazine Q&A with John Maibach, Managing Director

By Alie Mitchell

For more than six decades, the Loews Regency New York Hotel on Park Avenue has been synonymous with Park Avenue elegance, quiet luxury, and relationships that span generations. As the hotel prepares to celebrate its 63rd anniversary in March, Social Life Magazine sat down with Managing Director John Maibach to reflect on legacy, loyalty, and what’s next for one of Manhattan’s most enduring addresses.

The Regency is celebrating 63 years — what does this milestone mean to you and the team?

Celebrating 63 years is a powerful reminder of the legacy Loews Regency New York Hotel and Loews Hotels has built. For our team, it represents decades of thoughtfully unscripted hospitality — creating and maintaining lasting relationships between our team and our guests, both new and returning — and our continued commitment to excellence on Park Avenue.

What’s one value or tradition that has defined the Regency across generations?

Since we opened our doors, we have welcomed our guests like family. Whether it is their first stay or their fifteenth, guests feel at home here. They love returning to Park Avenue and seeing the same familiar faces in our lobby and restaurant time and time again.

Is there a guest moment or story that truly captures the spirit of the hotel?

It’s hard to pinpoint just one moment — it’s something I see and smile about every day. It’s the hugs, smiles, and friendships our team has built with guests over the years. We now have team members caring for third-generation visitors. Guests often refer to our staff as their “friends” and look forward to seeing them each time they return.

What most distinguishes the Regency in New York’s luxury hotel scene today?

Two words: team members. When guests step through our doors, they are greeted with genuine warmth. Some of our team members have been with us for over 30 years. We’ve been part of countless celebrations and milestones. For many guests, we are more than a place to stay — we are their home away from home on Park Avenue.

As you look ahead, what excites you most about the future of the Regency?

Sixty-three years in, we are just getting started. We are home to beautifully appointed, spacious guestrooms and suites, our signature restaurant, The Regency Bar & Grill, and the full-service salon and spa by Julien Farel.

We’ve recently made subtle cosmetic updates to our lobby and restaurant that guests will appreciate. The Regency Bar & Grill continues to evolve with expanded seasonal menus and a full selection of low- and no-alcohol offerings through branded programs including Free Spirited and Fizz by Loews Hotels.

Beyond the hotel, we are collaborating with cultural institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art to offer guests exclusive experiences.

We look forward to welcoming both new and returning guests and continuing to share the enduring allure of Park Avenue at Loews Regency New York Hotel.
