What 630 and 660 nm are for

Skin Comfort and Redness at 630 nm, With a Clear Limit
Studies find 630 nm LED light is associated with improved comfort in sensitive skin, though the supporting evidence here is thin. It rests on a single-arm, uncontrolled pilot with no placebo or sham comparison group. A 2020 pilot (PMID 32118019) reported that 93.3 percent of participants met the predefined outcome, with a mean sensitive-skin score declining from roughly 54.7 to somewhere near 14. The design of that study matters as much as its numbers. It was a single-arm, uncontrolled pilot involving just 30 people, with neither a placebo nor a sham comparison group. A study assembled that way cannot establish that the light itself caused the change. The sensible reading treats it as an early signal rather than settled proof.
A Note on 1064 nm
The panels additionally carry a deep near-infrared band at 1064 nm. The only 1064 nm facial-rejuvenation evidence in the data I reviewed originates from an Nd:YAG laser study rather than an LED panel. Laser dosimetry does not translate cleanly to a consumer LED panel, so that result should not be interpreted as evidence for these units. The 1064 nm band is a real wavelength the panels emit. The facial evidence surrounding it, however, remains laser-only.
