The Steaks of Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is an Argentinian steakhouse that specializes – and prides themselves in – traditional and authentic cuisine. Owner Ismael Alba couldn’t find a restaurant in New York that captured the spirit of his homeland, and with this in mind created the conceived the eatery located in the East Village to be as close a meal in Argentina as possible in the big city. Upon entering the lightly lit establishment, the rustic, brick wall décor gives you a welcoming feel before you even have a seat. The walls are decorated with travel photos from Buenos Aires and then traditional Argentine music made me feel as though I was already there.

The menu, which ranges from $7 – $66, features a variety of pastas such as the Spaghetti Marinara con Albondigas (Spaghetti in a marinara sauce with homemade meat balls) and Ravioles de Langosta (Lobster ravioli in pink sauce) and of course, more steak than you’ll know what to do with. They also have a plethora of wine, spirits and specialty cocktails; I indulged in a Lucy (Absolut Vodka, Prosecco, passion fruit).

I had the opportunity to try out a variety of Buenos Aires’s USDA steaks featured on the menu including their porterhouse, ribeye, filet mignon and skirt steak with each piece being just as, if not, tastier than the last. Each steak was paired with a red wine which really brought out the flavors a bit more.

As amazing as the steak was, I’m already planning on returning for the all new brunch program which will launch this Winter. The $35 pre-fixe brunch includes 2 courses, 2 cocktails, and coffee or tea. The same menu without alcohol is offered for $25. Signature brunch items include Grilled Skirt Steak with Eggs, House made Chorizo, Spinach Empanadas, and Panqueque de Dulce de Leche.

Ismael Alma has really taking a piece of Argentina and brought it the NYC with Buenos Aires. I highly recommend it for people not only looking for a great steak but an authentic experience that can only come from someone who’s is passionate about all aspects of his culture. buenosairesnyc.com
