Every so often, it’s a good idea to assemble a group of like-minded female friends, and head out on a shared break together. And there are few better environments for a good girl’s trip than the coast. These areas tend to offer a range of relaxing experiences, from strolls along the sand, to surfing, to seafront dining.
Let’s unpack the appeal of these locations and identify some of the best examples.
Beachfront Bliss
If you’re looking for boutique inns and views of the ocean, then California and Florida might both appeal. In the former, we find the storybook cottages and white sands of Carmel-by-the-Sea; in the latter, there’s the aptly named resort community of Seaside. For girl’s trips, it’s better to look for resorts and beaches that don’t cater to families. That way, you’ll be able to avoid the crowds.
Spa & Sea Retreats
If you’re feeling the tension after months of work, then a few days at a good spa resort can be a great thing. A massage and a mineral pool, followed by a sunset walk, might be exactly what’s required. The Hamptons, in Long Island, are packed with these – and there are excellent candidates in Ojai and Big Sur, in California.
Coastal Foodie Finds
For some groups, the appeal of excellent, locally-sourced seafood might be difficult to resist. There are plenty of resorts that offer exactly this – many of which are adjacent to wine country. Charleston, in South Carolina, is packed with shrimp. Further north, there’s Portland, in Maine.
Of course, your destination should be, in part, determined by the preferences of your group. If you’re all looking for a certain kind of food, then it’s worth seeking out a destination that provides it.
Marina Moments
Part of the fun of visiting the coast is boating. Even if you don’t intend to actually board any of them, it can be rewarding to simply stroll through the docks, and watch those luxury yachts drift out to sea. Although, for the ultimate girl’s trip, chartering a yacht (or even buying a yacht) might be worthwhile. Newport, in Rhode Island, is a classic yachting capital, packed with bustling marinas.
Adventure by the Water
Often, the most rewarding trips are those that allow you to get physically active, and to enjoy a novel learning experience alongside the people whose company you enjoy. Go paddleboarding on Lake Tahoe, hiking through the Grand Canyon, or snorkelling in Key West. The options are endless!
