Show Your Pride with these Colorful Bites

Text By: Daniela Gentile

One week left to celebrate Pride Month in NYC and you’re still not sure what to do before you head to the Parade on Sunday? Be sure to try out these delectable and festive pride-themed eats. Follow these tips and your belly (and your Instagram) will thank you.

Rainbow Cake

Part of the Thomas Keller Restaurant Group, Bouchon Bakery is known for its traditional French desserts and artisanal bread. Available throughout the month of June is their rainbow cookie cake, being made since June 2015, after same-sex marriage was legalized by the Supreme Court. The cake is made of seven layers of purple, different tones of blue, green, yellow, orange, and red, the same as the gay pride’s flag. As for the taste, it consists of regular cake ingredients (flour, eggs, and butter) as well as almond paste and raspberry and apricot jam. If the different colored layers weren’t enough, the cake is covered with a layer of chocolate and sprinkles that will remind you of “galaxy dust.” The treat costs $5.50 and you can find it at their store in the Hudson Yards. hudsonyardsnewyork.com

#JustProud Salad

You can call this creative, to say the least. Just Salad, famous for their healthy salad options and the reusable bowl, came up with a salad that is just as tasteful as it is colorful. Also following the gay pride’s symbol and flag, this salad offers fun and health in one bowl. The salad contains romaine and red cabbage, grape tomatoes, carrots, banana peppers, avocado, and to finish off, their house-made balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Just Salad will donate $1 for every Just Proud Salad sold in all of their locations to local LGBTQIA+ organizations in New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Philadelphia and Florida throughout the month of June. Sounds perfect for a lunch break right? justsalad.com
