Savanna Rooftop is a new, eclectic open-air rooftop lounge that transports guests to a lush refuge high above the hustle and bustle of the city, offering unparalleled views of the Manhattan skyline. From the creators of the rooftop bar Ophelia, Merchants Hospitality, this expansive rooftop venue is now open and located at the top of the Z Hotel, 11–01 43rd Avenue in Long Island City.
“Long Island City offers the best view of the Manhattan skyline and is extremely accessible from all of the Boroughs,” said President and Chief Executive Officer of Merchants Hospitality, Abraham Merchant. “We have created a welcoming rooftop retreat that creates a far-away vacation atmosphere, with the added bonus of the most famous skyline in the world as a backdrop.”
Drawing inspiration from the savannas of Africa, Savanna Rooftop is perched on the 12th floor with 180-degree skyline views of Manhattan as well as views across Long Island. As the elevator doors open to Savanna, guests will be immediately captivated by the view and relaxed charm of the space. Acacia and eucalyptus wood furniture mix with grasses, trees and accent pieces in green and blue, evoking a tranquil resort atmosphere.
A highlight of the décor is a series of brightly colored murals created by Brooklyn artist N. Carlos J. The murals depict a paradise where there is love and interaction between all creatures, creating an ambience of happiness and comfort. The vivid art enhances the rooftop experience as an escape to paradise within an urban setting.
Whimsical twists on the classics accentuate the cocktail menu created by Chad Dutkowski. Dutkowski has created menus for Happy Cooking Group, The Standard Hotel, Extra Fancy, Grand Army Bar and most recently The Hoxton hotel in Williamsburg. At Savanna, Dutkowski has imagined playful shaken, stirred and frozen creations anchored by the concept of a staycation. Options include the mezcal based Coco Camino, Hula Daiquiri and a frozen Gin & Tonic. The beverage menu also offers a selection of wines and features the best of Long Island City craft beers.
Complementing the drinks is a menu of international small plates by Chef Antelmo Ambrosio. Prepared from an open kitchen, enjoy dishes including Carne Asada Tacos, Roasted Cod Lettuce Wraps and Edamame Hummus served with Summer Veggies. Chef Ambrosio, Executive Chef of Treadwell Park, is a master of creating lite fare and shareable dishes with universal appeal.
